Beverly Thome is just incredibly fun to have in class. Ask any transformation team member and they will tell you Beverly is as good at supporting them as they are at supporting her. Just when we feel like we can’t do one more rep we look at Beverly and see her push through the fatigue and we know we can do it too. We think reading her “something people might not know about you” might inspire you to do something kind to someone you might never meet!
PF: What made you decide to start coming to Phoenix Fitness?
BT: I was a member of SWAT since shortly after they opened (maybe 11 or 12 years?) and was truly lost when they closed. I just unhappily bounced around at other gyms until Marta opened Phoenix Fitness.
PF: How often do you come to Phoenix Fitness?
BT: If it’s a good week (which is most weeks, thankfully) 5 or 6 days a week.
PF: Which classes do you take and do you have a favorite?
BT: I take RPM, BODYPUMP, CXWORX, and BODYFLOW regularly and then when my schedule allows I do the BODYSTEP/CXWORX combo and the Saturday BODYSTEP. I think my favorite class is BODYFLOW – it’s the one I missed the most when I was waiting for Phoenix Fitness to open. I have to admit that I don’t stay for relaxation because I have a serious case of monkey mind!
PF: What do you love about Phoenix Fitness?
BT: The fantastic instructors, the members, the welcome center staff who always say your name when you walk in, the big studio with windows, the camaraderie, the feeling of accomplishment I have when class is over (especially RPM).
PF: What advice do you have for new Phoenix Fitness members or people curious about what we offer?
BT: Really, nobody is watching you! I know that is a real fear for new members but people are too busy watching the instructor and trying to get the right steps or correct form themselves! Don’t worry about making mistakes and just keep trying. Be proud of yourself for being there. The hardest part is just showing up.
PF: Outside of Phoenix Fitness-what are your favorite hobbies?
BT: My husband and I have a tandem bike and we go for long rides on the weekend. It’s really fun and it’s good exercise. Any time spent with my granddaughter (6) and grandson (3) is a joy. Also, we love to visit National Parks for vacation and do day hikes. In September we’re going back to Mt. Rainier for the second time.
PF: Share one thing people at Phoenix Fitness might not know about you.
BT: I have donated 124 units of blood so far to the American Red Cross. I try to donate every couple of months or so. I encourage everyone to try it – it’s only about an hour or so of your time and you get cookies and juice when you’re done! I’ll go with you and hold your hand if you are apprehensive. Also, about 18 months ago I broke a toe on my right foot. I try to modify my workouts since my foot is still not completely healed and I won’t do any jumping or impact type moves. But I’m not willing to give up working out!
