At first glance Rosemary Beyer comes across as a quiet, unassuming person. She always walks into Phoenix Fitness with a smile but when it’s time to work out she gets down to business. It is so much fun watching the athlete come out in her when it’s needed. We are proud to have Rosemary as a member and we believe she can inspire men and women everywhere who have any number of reasons not to make a health a priority.
PF: What made you decide to start coming to Phoenix Fitness?
RB: I have always struggled with my weight. I have an easy time putting it on but not such an easy time getting it to come off, so when I moved back to Michigan from Chicago I knew I needed to do something about it, as I was at my all time high and not feeling very good about myself. I attended SWAT on a guest pass of my mother's and I absolutely loved it!. So for me it was a no brainer to follow Marta and the other instructors over to Phoenix Fitness when it opened. There really is no other gym in the area that embodies what Phoenix Fitness does.
PF: How often do you come to Phoenix Fitness?
RB: I try to come between 3 and 5 days a week depending on what my schedule allows. I work in Wyoming, MI so it’s sometimes hard for me to get out of work and back into town on time for the last classes of the evening, but I go any chance I can get.
PF: Which classes do you take and do you have a favorite?
RB: GRIT, BODYCOMBAT, CXWORX, and BODYPUMP. And I actually like GRIT the best. I love the challenge, the fact that you get such an intense full body work out in only 30 minutes, that it is you vs you, and also fact that it is a smaller group with a coach. You get to really know the other members of your group over the 8 weeks and everyone encourages each other. Although I may not enjoy it while doing it, the feeling you have after each session-that feeling of both accomplishment and survival-compares to no other class
PF: What do you love about Phoenix Fitness?
RB: The classes, the instructors, the other members, the owners, the environment. What is there not to love about Phoenix Fitness? I love how when you walk into a class you don’t feel like you are walking into a gym where people are there just to work out for the sake of working out, but rather you are walking into a room full of people that embody the same philosophy you do about heath and fitness.
PF: What advice do you have for new Phoenix Fitness members or people curious about what we offer?
RB: Don't be intimidated and afraid to step out of your comfort zone. I actually ran out of my very first Les Mills class just as the class began because I kept telling myself "this is going to be too hard and I don't think I can do this" and it took me several days to go back, but I am really glad I did and it wasn’t as scary as I thought it was going to be. Plus, I survived! We have all been in your shoes at one point so don't be afraid to ask for help, advice, or tips from other members and especially the instructors. Everyone is so friendly and wants to help. You are your biggest critic and can achieve what you set your mind to even if it seems like a huge goal. Don't give up!
PF: Outside of Phoenix Fitness-what are your favorite hobbies?
RB: I enjoy cooking (I'm still learning how not to burn things), going to the movies, reading (which is a good thing since I'm studying for my regulatory affairs certification exam in the fall), and of course spending time with my family. I have two young nephews I am enjoying watching grow, and this is the first time in a decade that my siblings and I are all on the same continent, so I try to get together with them every chance I can.
PF: Share one thing people at Phoenix Fitness might not know about you.
RB: Lets see, well I've been a vegetarian for 19 years (since I was 15 years old). Also, I come from a big hockey family. Three of my four siblings, me, and my father all played. I played ice hockey all through high school and college (so 8 years in total). I was also a referee and helped coach a team of younger kids. I was often the only girl on my team, which could be both fun and intimidating at the same time. I definitely think my time playing hockey has definitely helped mold me into the person I am today.
Thank you Rosemary!! We are so grateful you chose us to help you along your wellness journey.
