Let us introduce you to Doug Prillwitz! Doug teaches Bodypump at 6:30pm Mondays and CXWORX Mondays at 7:30pm and Saturdays at 10:15. Doug has figured out that perfect balance of being really, truly kind and demanding our members give 100% every class. It’s a hard balance to find but that’s what makes Doug such a great team member to have!
PF: How did you get started in Fitness?
DP: I got started when I reached a point in my life where I knew that I had to make a change. I couldn't keep up with my young children and I knew that if I continued down my existing path, I would begin to suffer from multiple ailments of poor health. That was a turning point in my life.
PF: You teach Bodypump and CXWORX. Do you have a favorite format to teach?
DP: Wow. That's a tough choice. I really enjoy both as well as all of our Les Mills programs. Bodypump gives you the full body workout, and CXWORX gives you the core strength we all need. I guess I would have to choose Bodypump but only by a slim margin.
PF: How did you choose Phoenix Fitness?
DP: I've tried classes at other gyms and just have not been impressed with them. Even the gyms that have Les Mills programs just didn't have the motivation and intensity that the instructors at Phoenix Fitness have. It's been said that in order to be successful, you need to surround yourself with those people who are already successful. I wouldn't want to be anywhere other than Phoenix Fitness because of the high caliber of instructors.
PF: What do you love about teaching?
DP: I love our members and the programs we offer. Our members are motivated by our instructors, and our instructors are motivated by our members. It's an awesome circle of positive reinforcement for everyone. I'm just happy to be a part of it.
PF: What are a few of your go to healthy snacks?
DP: I like to keep small items on hand that are easy to grab and go. Cheese sticks, protein bars, and whey protein in a Blender bottle are some regulars for me.
PF: Do you work outside teaching at Phoenix Fitness?
DP: Yes. I work as a Technician for UPS. I work with our customers to integrate our systems with theirs, and I handle our telecommunications systems for Michigan and most of Ohio.
PF: What are your hobbies outside of teaching at Phoenix Fitness?
DP: I love spending time with my family and kids. We really enjoy spending time at the beach. I also enjoy photography and technology.
PF: What is one thing people at Phoenix Fitness might not know about you?
DP: I was really overweight when I decided to make a change in my life. I was 260 lbs, which is a lot when you are only 5' 8". I was wearing size 42 pants that were getting tight. I had size 44 pants in the closet and ready to go. If you are familiar with men’s sizes, you probably know that you can't find anything beyond a size 44 at typical clothing stores. You're shopping at the big and tall men’s stores at that point. I will never go back to being sedentary and overweight again.
