Let us introduce you to Kalli Overmyer! Kalli teaches RPM at 5:30pm Tuesdays and Saturdays at 8:10am. Kalli pushes her RPMers to the next level every single class! She also brings just enough fun to make you want to come back for more.
PF: How did you get started in Fitness?
KO: I have always been active in sports and outdoor activities. After I had my first son I was looking for a gym to join for a little mommy time. I eventually joined SWAT fitness club and started making my way through the schedule of Les Mills classes offered. I found my favorite ones and was able to drop the remaining 30 lbs of baby weight. I believed in Les Mills and I loved RPM so much I decided to sign up for training, that was almost 2 1/2 years ago.
PF: How did you choose Phoenix Fitness?
KO: Phoenix Fitness is the only top notch Les Mills facility in Kalamazoo! It's not just a place to come and relieve some stress, it's a family for a lot of members and instructors. We are all working towards one common goal...to be fitter, faster and stronger! And lets be honest, Marta and Scott are some of the best bosses around! J
PF: What do you love about teaching?
KO: I love teaching RPM because I love seeing members break through that mental game of fitness. Just when you think you can't turn the resistance any more, you see someone challenge themselves and mentally take themselves there. I love seeing people crush their workouts! And honestly, who doesn't love listening to the uplifting beats of RPM?!?
PF: What are a few of your go to healthy snacks?
KO: If I’m pressed for time, which I usually am, I tend to reach for a meal replacement or protein shake to eat on the go. If I just need a little snack here and there I love to munch on raw almonds or air popped popcorn with a dash of sea salt. Popcorn can fill you up real fast and has low calories when you just can't fight the urge to snack.
PF: Do you work outside teaching at Phoenix Fitness?
KO: Yes, I am the COO of my household. J I stay home with my three boys, all under the age of 4. (Editor’s note-that is absolutely a full time job!)
PF: What are your hobbies outside of teaching at Phoenix Fitness?
KO: I like taking it back old school, sewing and baking are two of my favorite hobbies. About 3 years ago, I received my very first sewing machine for my birthday. I started sewing burp cloths and other baby items for new moms. I always appreciated gifts from the heart more than a store bought gift as a new mother. As for baking, I'm always in search of that perfect cake or bread recipe from my grandmothers or other family members. The old recipes just seem to taste better and hold a special place in my heart!
PF: What is one thing people at Phoenix Fitness might not know about you?
KO: I used to be a first grade teacher before I had kids. Knowing that I wanted to stay home after having kids, my husband and I worked really hard and paid off all our debt before I became pregnant. After having my first son, I just couldn't imagine sending him to a daycare so I turned in my resignation letter and have not regretted it since. I still get to use my teaching skills, just in a different format at Phoenix Fitness.
