Lisa Brown is the newest member of our Transformation Team with a BODYPUMP class every Friday at noon. She also holds the title of first Team member trained at Phoenix Fitness! (Les Mills chose Phoenix Fitness as the best studio to hold a BODYPUMP training just a few months after our opening. Lisa was at that training!) We have been in the business long enough to hear almost every reason why someone has gotten out of shape or went off track on their wellness journey. Tragedy can often be the reason (a pretty good reason at that) people give up on their health but not for Lisa. We believe her story of overcoming tragedy will inspire you to live each day better and to count your blessings while you have them.
PF: How did you get started in Fitness?
LB: Actually my husband Ryan, a high school coach, has studied strength and conditioning for years. So, who better than to train than his wife! Ha
PF: How did you choose Phoenix Fitness?
LB: Weight training is my true passion. I firmly believe that all people should incorporate it into their workouts somehow … should it be in a gym or in a class setting. There are so many women that think weight training will get you “big” or “bulky”, but gaining muscle will you benefit in you so many ways! Muscle burns more calories, improves your posture, improves your immunity, and helps fights the effects of aging. Can you tell I’m addicted!!?? Ha! By coaching BODYPUMP, I am so excited to share my passion with others. I want people to see these amazing benefits that I have experienced the past 15 years! And because I know that Marta is a firm believer in these same things, I was thrilled that she would have me as part of her amazing team at Phoenix Fitness.
PF: What do you love about teaching?
LB: Besides the few reasons I mentioned above, I have only been teaching for 2 months, but those 2 months have been great! I love that look on someone’s face during class that shows me they are giving it every ounce of energy they have. I love helping someone push that one last rep or squat just a little deeper. Everyone has a little more in the tank than they think … my goal is to help them find it. I still have a lot to learn about teaching but, that’s my challenge to myself!
PF: What are a few of your go to healthy snacks?
LB: I can’t say I have anything fancy … pistachios, Ezekiel toast with some guacamole or peanut butter, apples with peanut butter, or protein balls (amazingly good for my sweet tooth!!! PB, oatmeal, honey and I may just toss in some pb chips ;)). I try to just eat the cleanest I can, but everything in moderation.
PF: Do you work outside teaching at Phoenix Fitness?
LB: I do … 3 days a week. My family owns an excavation/trucking company, Byholt Inc. So, I am blessed to work with my Dad and 2 brothers and still have a flexible schedule being a mom!
PF: What are your hobbies outside of teaching at Phoenix Fitness?
LB: My biggest hobby is working out I think!! My husband and I are the ones that make part of our vacation finding a great gym! It’s something we truly enjoy together. I love shopping (ok, could be an obsession .. ha), and enjoy family time we spend in Holland. I think my hobbies have become what my girls enjoy…outside, jumping on the trampoline, going to yopa, etc
PF: What is one thing people at Phoenix Fitness might not know about you?
LB: Hmm .. probably a lot of things, but I’d say the biggest thing is that my husband and I lost our first born to cancer at only 2 years old. It was a life changing experience and I could write you a book about what we went through but the biggest thing I can share with you…don’t ever take one day for granted. Live your life to the fullest possible, kiss your babies goodnight every night, and always say I love you. Your life can be changed in an instant so don’t live with any regrets!
