Liz Graham teaches BODYPUMP Mondays at 6:00am and Tuesdays at 5:30pm. She also teaches CXWORX Wednesdays at 7:30pm and can often be found team teaching CXWORX Thursday nights at 5:00pm. Don’t let Liz’s sense of humor fool you-she won’t let you settle on anything less than your very best!
PF: How did you get started in Fitness?
LG: I grew up on small, 10-acre farm, so I was always outdoors running around and hiking in the woods. Also, all 3 of my older siblings played sports so, wanting to be just like them, I played every sport I could. That active lifestyle continued into my adult years and basically became second-nature; I’m not saying that working out isn’t a struggle at times, but it really keeps me happy, healthy, and balanced.
PF: How did you choose Phoenix Fitness?
LG: I like to surround myself with great things and people-Phoenix embodies that philosophy. The owners, members and instructors are all awesome and the environment is so inclusive. As a person and as an instructor, I always strive to be better, so being around other great people and fantastic instructors keeps me on my game.
PF: You are certified in BODYPUMP AND CXWORX, do you have a favorite to teach?
LG: I honestly love both programs, but BODYPUMP is my jam! I crave it at times; it feels so good to be strong! BODYPUMP also pushes you to do those extra repetitions (or 30) that you wouldn’t normally do on your own. (As a side note - CXWORX was recently rated one of the Top 20 workouts in Men’s Health Magazine… and Phoenix Fitness just happens to have the top rated instructors – Maverick and Goose. You should probably check them out. They’ll be there on Thursday nights.)
PF: What do you love about teaching?
LG: A couple things: 1) I love the fact that people are making an effort to lead an active lifestyle. However, seeing people become stronger, stepping out of their comfort zone and doing things they didn’t think they could do – that is so exciting and motivating! And 2) no matter what I have going on in my life, the one hour (or 30 min for CXWORX) that I am teaching is one hour that I don’t think about anything else except the people in front of me. It’s my way of actively giving back to the community, which is very rewarding.
PF: What are a few of your go to healthy snacks?
LG: Bananas for sure, since there is no prep and are easy to grab. I also love pistachios, mangos, avocados, eggs (all variations) and UMP (Editor’s note: UMP is a protein supplement sold at Phoenix Fitness!)
PF: Do you work outside teaching at Phoenix Fitness?
LG: Yes. I work full-time at Zoetis in the Global Quality and Compliance group.
PF: What are your hobbies outside of teaching at Phoenix Fitness?
LG: Cooking (eating), traveling, listening to live music, hiking, kayaking, volleyball, snowboarding, and spending time with family and friends.
PF: What is one thing people at Phoenix Fitness might not know about you?
LG: I lived and worked in Shanghai, China for just over a year. Talk about getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. It wasn’t always easy, but it was definitely worth it. (see what I did there? when I say this in class, it pertains to all the things!)
